Upcoming Engadget Nokia N9 review [updated]

UPDATE: so whats up with the pictures?? i hear you ask… Well, check an Engadget review of something totally unrelated to Apple and see how many Apple products they manage to squeeze in every fucking picture….

Yeah, it is once more time to dust up the time machine and have a peek into the future. This time, we are examining the future of Nokia N9 MeeGo phone 🙂

Engadget N9 review

The Nokia N9, or more correctly the N950 – the developer version that you cannot buy

Here we go:

Pros:

  • solid build quality
  • battery lasts for a week with moderate use
  • off-line access to Ovi Maps
  • very good call quality

As you can see, the new UI is just as Ugly as Symbian^3. Is Nokia scared of squares?

Cons:

  • browser can not run flash content
  • no retina display, 840×400 is just too low for serious browsing
  • Only 20.000 apps available on Ovi Store. Apple App Store ™ have now more than 600.000 very useful and interesting apps
  • we cant really see developers doing apps for this platform, after all Apple App Store ™ have now more than 600.000 apps
  • N9 doesn’t play nice with our macs, neither can it stream to our AirPlay. and no native itunes support
  • dated OMAP3 processor, these days you need at least a dual core CPU.
  • MeeGo is a dead platform. We can’t really see why people should buy this phone instead of, say, Apple iPhone 4 which has a huge mindshare (Apple App Store ™ have more than 600.000 apps)
  • the price, 580 USD is simply too much when you can get a Verizon iPhone 4 for 49 USD
  • no physical keyboard

As you can clearly see in the picture, the N9 is simply too small for any serious work.

Verdict:
6 / 10

(you might think this is bad. However, this is actually the highest score Engadget ever given a Nokia product)

    browser can not run flash content – who the fuck cares. the only thing flash is being used for nowadays is banner ads.
    no retina display, 840×400 is just too low for serious browsing – serious browsing as in using a crt monitor at a rez of 640 X 400 like the good old days? be grateful you still have eyes shithead.
    Only 20.000 apps available on Ovi Store. Apple App Store ™ have now more than 600.000 very useful and interesting apps – and im sure you WILL USE ALL 600,000 very useful and interesting apps right?
    we cant really see developers doing apps for this platform, after all Apple App Store ™ have now more than 600.000 apps – have you ever see a developer develop something. now rather than bitch why dont you go and create a calculator using Java.
    N9 doesn’t play nice with our macs, neither can it stream to our AirPlay. and no native itunes support. – and we all know that if its not compatible with macs, we will all DIE.
    dated OMAP3 processor, these days you need at least a dual core CPU. – says who? your mama? dont be a sheep man.. baaaa baaaa
    MeeGo is a dead platform. We can’t really see why people should buy this phone instead of, say, Apple iPhone 4 which has a huge mindshare (Apple App Store ™ have more than 600.000 apps) – again with the 600,000 apps that you are currently using and installed on your glorious iPhone. the only thing thats dead here is your brain.
    the price, 580 USD is simply too much when you can get a Verizon iPhone 4 for 49 USD – then get a job. stay in school, get a degree and you wouldnt be a loser who complains about money.
    no physical keyboard – this coming from the techies and geeks who wants futuristic technologies, and they’re bitching about a keyboard.

    @fakyuol/fuck you all
    youre an idiot. I hope you never breed. No point further polluting the genetic pool.

    lets go over your reply point by point.
    1. flash content – people care. people need it at present. stop being a sheep
    2. Retina display mostly has just snob value. It is gorgeous no doubt, but the reason for me to purchase a smartphone is so that i can increase my content consumption. My HTC Sensation is far better on account of having a larger screen. Please stop with the buzzwords – and get off the sugar – youre hyperactive
    3. 600,000 apps, frankly, the number is pretty misleading. Sure you have 600,000 apps, but the imp thing is unique apps/unique functionalities. Apple beats everyone on that count as well, but the gap isnt that wide.
    4. Dual Code CPU is helpful – essentially makes my phone a complete content-center listen to music while you surf 50 tabs – its a feature not a bug.
    5. meego is dead – sure, no questions there. But isnt not because its not a good OS but because its too late an entrant
    6. The argument about 580/49 USD? you might want to give “reason” and “logic” in an argument a try – It works better than insults.
    7. Physical keyboard has nothing to do with being futuristic – its a preferance. like your mother prefered for you to be inbred.

    good luck going through life

      @Abhinav and @fakyuol:
      cool down ladies!

      I have read fakyuol’s post multiple time and can’t really figure out what he is trying to say. I am not even sure fakyuol itself knows what he is saying…

    as i heard n9 is 1st and last device based on meego os so i think n9 has no future at all wat say?

    • 16/09/2011 at 21:21

      @Gourav:
      You are wrong on three accounts
      1. They said the same thing about N900 too
      2. There are already more than 10 Meego devices out there, two of which are made by Nokia so your point is already moot
      3. You buy a phone that is good (and N9 is a GREAT phone) and get the jobs done and you are satisfied with it TODAY, then who gives a horseload of dogshit if some dickhead on Engadget claims that the phone “has no future”??

    Seems as if journalists at Engadget have gone mad or just so flabbergasted to see such a Mind-blowing product from Nokia. On one hand they compare it with the iphone 4 and say Nokia N9 doesn’t support flash and too small for browsing, huh! When did IP4 start supporting the in-browser flash or when did IP4 grow up and become a 4 incher or up. Why oh why are they after Nokia so heavily? If they don’t like Nokia, who the hell cares, just let the Nokia do its work and you keep playing with your iphone 4s Engadget.
