Engadget reviews Nokia N8, here is a summary!!

Summary

Hardware is great, camera is great, battery is great, calling works like a charm. BUT it runs Symbian, we don’t like Symbian. It does not feel like iOS, there is multiple milliseconds of lag in animations.

People!! These are precious milliseconds of your life that you will never get back!!

Verdict: 4 out of 10

Oh, one more thing

I bet they will complain about the screen resolution. Just remember that until 2-3 months ago, Nokia devices had higher resolution than Apple devices (640×360 vs. 480×320) and Engadget never complained about that!

Disclaimer

I have not read the review yet!.

Knowing Engadget, I just “magically” know its contents 🙂

… and while we are at it

Nokia, where the fuck is my MeeGo device??

Slight correction: there is multiple milliseconds of lag in animations WHEN RUNNING 3 GAMES, VIDEO PLAYER, MAPS AND ALL OTHER APPS WE COULD POSSIBLY START IN THE BACKGROUND TO SLOW THE MACHINE DOWN TO MAKE IT LOOK BAD IN THE REVIEW.

5/10. I am seeing both red and laughing at their little Apple Reality Distortion Field corner they have set up. Hah.

Engadget, the Fox News of tech-blogs. Giving this phone 5 out of ten, having praised it for every feature, just demonstrates an anti-Nokia bias beyond rationality and comprehension. It’s so depressing how basic facts can get distorted to suit an agenda. Forgive my ignorance, but is there any background that explains why they’re doing this?

The lag when changing homescreen is not present when pushing the “…” homescreen button, try spamming the button as fast as you can, you will see it does not lag at all, i dont think even iphone is cabaple of refreshing the homescreen that fast. It’s a questionable implementation of detecting the swipe. Hopefully they will fix it in a FW update.

Its pretty painful. Th lag when changing the screen is because instead of “dragging the screen” you are performing a gesture (swiping) that is akin to a command “switch home screens.” Of course, Apple doesn’t HAVE a home screen… it just has an application launcher.

Anyway, your summary of the review pre-reading is pretty awesome.

Check the comments on the Engadget podcast. They banned someone who called them out on their biased review and the bigoted jokes they made about Finland in their podcast. http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/16/engadget-podcast-216-10-16-2010/
